Forma Marine Advisor | What Materials Are Best for a Boat Chair?
The materials used to manufacture a boat chair must be suitable for yacht decks and outdoor conditions, including sunlight, humidity, salt exposure and frequent use. Choosing appropriate materials helps maintain the chair's appearance, comfort and durability over time.
When comparing marine chairs, consider the following material requirements:
- Frame materials: The frame should combine strength, stability and manageable weight, with materials and finishes suitable for marine exposure such as anodized aluminum.
- UV-resistant fabrics: Seat and back fabrics should resist fading caused by strong sunlight.
- Stain-resistant and easy-to-clean fabrics: Materials that are simple to clean help maintain the appearance of the chair during regular outdoor use.
- Quick-drying fabrics: Look for fabrics designed to release moisture and dry quickly after exposure to water.
- Mildew-resistant textiles: Fabrics, threads, seams and hems should be suitable for humid conditions and resist mildew.
- Corrosion-resistant components: Hardware, joints and other metal components should be selected for use in the marine environment.
- Deck protection: Feet should be designed to help prevent marks or scratches on delicate yacht deck surfaces.
At Forma Marine, material selection and careful manufacturing are important considerations in producing marine furniture designed for long-term use in demanding outdoor conditions.
